Individual Psychotherapy

My practice is rooted in the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a set of therapy techniques that emphasize the inter-relationship between thoughts, emotion and behavior. These techniques have been developed using scientific principles of behavior and validated by decades of research. They are the "gold-standard" intervention for several psychological conditions including anxiety disorders and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

More recently developed ("third-wave") CBT techniques strongly emphasize Buddhism inspired mindfulness and the acceptance of moment-to-moment life experience. I draw heavily from these mindfulness and acceptance based therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)* .

My practice is also informed by other evidence based techniques such as acceptance and commitment therapy, somatic experiencing therapy, and self-compassion therapy.

I use a principle driven approach to therapy, where in I use strategies of CBT to tailor treatment to each client given their specific goals. In addition to this, I implement formal protocols when treating specific conditions. These include:

  • Behavioral Activation for depression

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Tinnitus

  • Exposure and Response Prevention therapy for OCD

  • Exposure-based therapies for anxiety disorders

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure for PTSD

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Adult ADHD

* Please note that while I am not currently accepting individual DBT patients, I have extensive training in DBT and utilize DBT skills in many of my treatments.
